Lessons from a lip sync battle

Our oldest son is a junior in college.  Since his freshman year, he has been playing club soccer, and this year was named captain of his team.  It was a great start to his third year of school.

And then he injured his knee. The good knee. The other knee was holding up well after ACL reconstructive surgery three years ago.

As he captained from the sidelines, it became clear he was not going to be able to play again this season.

Enter: The Lip Sync Battle.

He was able to rehab his knee to the point he could take part in what has become one of the biggest events on campus each year.  This year, there were 8 teams competing to make “Lip Sync Battle” history.

We didn’t travel across the country to see him play soccer.  No.  We traveled across the country to see him dance, lip sync, and throw guys in the air alongside 11 other “commandos.”  Their theme was taking on Bane (the villain from Batman) because, well, Batman was busy.

Not one person on his team had ever danced or performed flips before, yet they were competing against people who love to dance and sing–and one team–was made up of the D1 cheer team!

Never did I think I would be taking two days off of work to see a lip sync battle.  But I’m glad I did.  It was one of the sweetest times with our son.

And they won!  Ha!

I guess we should never underestimate what God can do with 12, inexperienced, unqualified guys.

Thanks for joining me on the journey!

Scott
